“Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength, They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” -Isaiah 40:31
I have taught on this verse for years; that those who wait on the Lord will be renewed. I get it. I’ve spoken it. I’ve written all about it.
But I was taken aback last month as I saw this truth in a pure light.
We get stuck in a nasty habit as people of faith... We pray for God to work, we long for good things to come, and yet in the waiting, our expectations are often skewed. We think that we will finally “arrive” - or, as Isaiah writes - soar, run, walk, and be unstoppable when the Lord brings that thing to fruition.
But this is not the picture that Isaiah paints.
He is speaking of a person in the wait who soars. He is showcasing a person in the season of “hoping” who is running with endurance and poise. And he is depicting a person who has yet to discover an answer who is divinely unstoppable and firmly planted.Read More
